Dairy farmers forced into ruin

July 15, 2009 (LPAC) - At the current rate of economic breakdown, 10% to 20% of the U.S. dairy herd will be wiped out by the end of this year. This projection comes from many state and national dairy leaders, referring to the fact, as one farmer put it, we're getting 1973 prices while paying 2009 costs. 'I'm almost 50 years old, and in my lifetime it's never been this bad.
